Duration: 8 weeks

Format: Live sessions and pre recorded material

Your task: Create a game-ready environment in Unreal Engine 5 by completing the homework assigned each week.

Requirements: You must have a basic understanding of Unreal Engine 5 to follow along.

Software required: Unreal Engine 5, Image editing tool such as Photoshop, 3D Modeling package such as Blender or 3ds Max.

 

Course content

  • Learn the universal laws of art composition, understand what mages an image look appealing and explore the different options to create different types of compositions and stories.

  • Learn how to model inside and outside of Unreal Engine 5. Explore different tools to create different types of forms and understand the importance of silhouette creation and how to have a model ready to be detailed for production.

  • Learn different forms of UV Mapping inside and outside Unreal Engine 5. Understand the importance of texturing and using Materials to create appealing assets.

  • You will explore different approaches to detail assets using modeling tools with textures at the same time. These techniques are widely used in the game industry in AAA studios.

  • We will explore Landscape creation in UE5 and go deep into Materials and composition techniques when creating organic assets for our scene.

  • Set dressing is a crucial part on adding details to our main scene. We will go deep into composition and art theory to decide where to place our assets to enhance the main focal point and overall feeling.

  • Color theory is a subject that people fail to understand on how to apply it in the context of Game Environments. You will learn the fundamentals of color theory and how to apply it in your scene by modifying existing textures to take your scene to the next level.

  • We will explore different lightning techniques in UE5 and the different approaches by using custom HDRI textures, artificial lightning and post process tools to achieve the mood we want for our scene.

Mao is a professional 3D artist for video games who has worked on Ubisoft where he contributed to titles like Skull and Bones and Immortal Fenyx Rising - Myths of the Eastern Realm. He is also an Unreal Authorized Instructor for Epic Games.
